day 1744
the year was probably…..hmm……1995? maybe earlier. maybe later. anyhoo…this was the time before SMART KEVIN. i say “smart kevin” because i still knew VERY little about computers. we had already bought our macintosh performa, and i was probably using it the most. but….i only knew what i could figure out. and using my MARIO PAINT-ability, i was able to actually create SOME stuff….all pre-family-internet, of course.
the big thing then for all of us, was games. any kind of games. a computer, to us, was just a big game machine. this was all before i realized the amazing things i could actually do with a computer. the downside to our gaming fascination, was that we had VERY few games. in fact, we probably had none. besides MARIO TEACHES TYPING (what doesn’t he teach?) there wasn’t much that was included with the computer. none of us realized we had to actually BUY software.
so….when we go to my cousin’s house….who knew MORE about computers than we did..and after seeing his setup…my bro and i were surprised. he wasn’t a mac guy and so he had windows computer. but he had a lot of software. and a lot of games. there was one game that i remember in particular….because….well…..it was raunchy…….AND…it had a very catchy tune during the opening screen.
yeah…..GET THAT GIRL…..NOW!…..TODAY!! i’ll never forget this game. that tune was always stuck in my head. but for some odd reason…i just never took the time to try and figure out what it was……

last night, while watching TV, i came across a STAPLES back to school commercial. it’s actually quite surprising, because for the last….i dunno….5 years maybe, the Staples back to school commercial has always been that MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR song thing…but now..it was different. and in the commercial was……yyyyup….the GET THAT GIRL SONG!
and then i heard the words!
and then…..a quick google search later…..and tada!
i shoulda known it was Depeche Mode…i knew i heard this actual song before. ah…1981….a good time.
